The Regional Alliance for Freedom of Expression and Information is a regional coalition originally constituted by organizations of the civil society of Central America, Mexico and the Dominican Republic, devoted to defend and promote freedom of expression and access to the public information in the region. The Trust for the Americas proposed the initiative on the 4th of October 2005 to various Central America organizations, within the framework of a regional meeting organized by the Inter-American Dialogue in the Dominican Republic.
The Regional Alliance for Freedom of Expression and Information is composed by more than 20 organizations of the civil society and has established cooperation agreements with higher education institutions in Latin America. About 80 specialists (ONGs representatives, lawyers, academics, journalists and other professionals) constitute the human resource of this coalition and are fundamental in its horizontal cooperation activities, professorships and strategic missions.
